How I Became a Wedding Officiant

reneesantafe

I initially came to New Mexico in 1981 with the United States Air Force. I was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base and served as a police officer for four years. I developed a deep appreciation for the land's spirit and the generous warm weather.

Following my service, I worked as a paralegal at the District Attorney's Office for approximately 25 years. Various conferences took me north to Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and nearby areas for training, and I promised myself that I would live here one day. Santa Fe, NM is stunning, with its rich architecture, history, culture, cuisine, 360-degree mountain views for walking and hiking, and, of course, the artisans.

In 2015, an opportunity came my way, and before long, I had stored all my possessions, leaving with only my clothes and pc. With the love and support of my family and friends, I set off for Santa Fe to participate in a two-month legislative session.

During this period, I arranged numerous interviews with the State of New Mexico for paralegal roles, yet I sensed that I was seeking something entirely different. It was then that I recalled someone advising me to think outside the box and to apply my skills in a new way. I was truly ready to embark on a new path beyond the judicial system. With two weeks remaining before the session concluded, I was browsing the local newspaper for job opportunities. Yes, an actual newspaper! There it was, an Events Coordinator position was available at the Loretto Chapel. I felt an immense joy. I believed my qualifications would be ideal.

Thus, in 2015, following numerous interviews with the management team, I was offered the position and embarked on my new journey in Santa Fe. The transition has been both wonderful and fulfilling. I've encountered many fascinating individuals from around the globe, have formed deep friendships, and have organized hundreds of weddings, along with various other events.

My journey to becoming an ordained minister began at a Loretto Chapel wedding where the officiant fell ill. Although he managed to conduct the ceremony, it was challenging for him. Feeling powerless in that situation, I resolved to become ordained to handle emergencies if they occur. I have since extended this ordination and made myself available to you.
